What is NightLink?

NightLink is the name given to the all night public transport services that leave Fortitude Valley and CBD on Friday and Saturday nights. These services are helping improve safety in Inner City Brisbane and get patrons home after a night out.

As part of the 17-Point Brisbane City Safety Action Plan introduced by the Premier in 2005, NightLink includes bus, train and FlatFare taxi services.

NightLink taxi

NightLink taxis are FlatFare taxi services (share-ride services to your door for a cheaper fare than standard metred taxis). FlatFare Taxi services operate between 12am and 5.30am.

NightLink taxis are provided in partnership between Queensland Transport, Black and White Cabs, Yellow Cabs and the Taxi Council of Queensland.

secure taxi ranks

In addition to NightLink taxi ranks there are also a number of secure taxi ranks in the Brisbane CBD, offering normal taxi services in a secure environment.

Ticketing and fares

Buses and trains

Single, daily and off-peak daily tickets are valid up to the last NightLink service scheduled, on the day of issue and within the zones printed on the ticket. Passengers who catch a scheduled, next day normal TransLink service will need to purchase another ticket.

For example: if you buy an off-peak daily ticket at 8pm on Friday night to go to the Valley and travel home at 7am Saturday morning on a normal scheduled TransLink service, you will need to purchase a new ticket for the return journey. If you depart the Valley on a NightLink service at 3am Saturday morning, the off-peak daily ticket is still valid for travel, as you will be travelling on the previous night's special NightLink service.

Because NightLink tickets are normal TransLink tickets, they can be purchased from the usual TransLink ticket outlets. Tickets can also be purchased on the night from bus drivers or from train stations.

Taxis

NightLink FlatFare services operate within TransLink zones 1 to 6.

Recognising that there are a number of operating differences between taxis and buses/trains, the NightLink FlatFare taxi service uses modified TransLink zones. For NightLink FlatFare taxis TransLink zones 1 to 6 have been adjusted to identify that there are 'inner' parts of these zones. The inner parts of a zone, which would be cheaper to travel to on a metered fare, attract a lower FlatFare than the outer part of the zone.

The fare is paid directly to the NightLink FlatFare driver at the beginning of the journey.
